Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 28, 2026

This policy explains how Pure Falcon Trail ("we", "us") handles personal information when you use purefalcontrail.com (the "Site").

1. What we collect

  • Data you give us: name and email when you subscribe or contact us, and your message.
  • Automatic data: IP address, device and browser type, pages visited, referrer and time on site, via cookies and similar tools.

2. How we use it

  • to send the newsletter you requested;
  • to answer your messages;
  • to measure readership and improve the Site;
  • to protect the Site and meet legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information.

3. Legal bases

For visitors in the EEA and UK we rely on consent (newsletter, non-essential cookies), legitimate interests (operating and improving the Site) and legal obligations.

4. Sharing

We share data only with service providers such as hosting, email and analytics platforms that process it on our behalf, or with authorities where legally required.

5. Analytics and ads

We may use analytics and advertising partners that place cookies. You control these through the cookie banner and browser settings — see our Cookie Policy.

6. Retention

Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe; messages for as long as needed to respond; analytics in aggregated form.

7. Your rights

You may request access, correction, deletion or portability of your data, object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent and complain to a data protection authority. California residents may request disclosure and deletion of personal information. Email hello@purefalcontrail.com.

8. Children

The Site is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Security

We use HTTPS and reasonable safeguards; no system is perfectly secure.

10. Updates

We may revise this policy; the date above reflects the latest version.

11. Readers in Japan (APPI)

Pure Falcon Trail handles personal information in line with Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information. The purposes of use are the ones listed in section 2; we will not use your information for anything else without asking. We do not provide personal data to third parties without your consent, except where the law allows it or where we entrust processing to a provider (hosting, email delivery) under a contract that obliges them to protect it. You can ask us to disclose, correct, stop using or delete the personal data we hold about you by writing to the address in section 17; we will confirm your identity and reply without undue delay.

12. The Trail Letter

The Trail Letter goes out about twice a month with new routes and stories. We keep your email address — and your name if you give it — only to send it. Every issue has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address from the active list straight away.

13. Messages to us

Corrections, story tips and travel questions arrive by email or through the contact form. We keep them while we work on a reply or a correction and for up to twelve months afterwards, so we can follow up if a question comes back. If a tip leads to a correction, we may mention the correction in the story, but never your name unless you agree.

14. Transfers outside your country

Our hosting and email providers may store data on servers in Japan or abroad. Where data leaves Japan, the EEA or the UK, we rely on the safeguards the law requires, such as contractual clauses with the provider.

15. Photos you send us

Readers sometimes send their own pictures of a trail: a gassho roof under snow, a courtyard at Naoshima. A photo can carry location data and your camera details in its file. We remove that data before publishing anything, and we only publish a photo with the credit you asked for. Photos we decide not to use are deleted once we have replied.

16. If something goes wrong

If we learn that personal data we hold has leaked or been accessed by someone who shouldn't have it, we will look into it straight away, tell the people affected and report it to Japan's Personal Information Protection Commission when the law requires it.

We also keep a short internal note of any such incident (what happened, which data, what we changed) even when no report is required, so the same mistake doesn't happen twice.

17. Contact

Questions about this policy or your data: hello@purefalcontrail.com.
